The comprehension of metaphorical phrasal verbs is influenced by foreign language learners’cognitive style, language level, working memory capacity and metaphor type.Body movement is one of the experience behaviors of the original domain, and whether it has a priming effect on the understanding of metaphorical phrasal verbs is an issue which deserves further exploration.Based on the theory of Embodiment Cognition and Sensory-motor Simulation, the present paper studies the priming effect of real and imagined body movements on metaphorical phrasal verb comprehension by quantitative analysis. It is found that real and imagined body movements can prime learners’understanding of metaphorical phrasal verbs, and the matched body movements can improve learners’comprehension of these verbs.Foreign language teachers should adopt multiple modes such as body languages to promote the understanding and acquisition of metaphor and upgrade foreign language learners’experience of the original domain in multiple ways.
