摘 要:在任何一个政治共同体中,谁来教育年轻人,从来都是重大的政治问题。作为古希腊数学史上最著名的数学家之一,泰阿泰德以无理数理论和正多面体理论为自己赢得了不朽的荣誉。但在《泰阿泰德》的“序幕”中,柏拉图让读者首先看到的却是其卓著军功与为母邦雅典英勇赴死的气概,而非其数理成就。这一“谋篇”很可能意味着,泰阿泰德最终将踏上怎样的人生道路——是非政治的数理追求、纯政治的事功追求,还是立足城邦热爱智慧,取决于其“灵魂托管人”的引领与教化。在与左右泰阿泰德人生选择的几何学家忒奥多洛斯的初次交谈中,柏拉图就暗示,苏格拉底如何将泰阿泰德的灵魂从高蹈的几何学,逐步引向了雅典的土地与命运。In any political community,who educates the young people has always been a major political issue.As one of the eminent mathematicians in ancient Greece,Theaetetus won the eternal honors with his theories of irrational lengths and convex polyhedral.In the preface of Theaetetus,however,Plato offers the reader first with Theaetetus'prominent military medals and valiant spirits for Athens,rather than his mathematical achievements.Such a plan may well signal the ultimate path of life that Theaetetus would choose.In other words,whether it will be the non-political pursuit of mathematics and the chase of political accomplishments or the adherence to love of wisdom in the polis primarily relies on the guidance and teaching of his soul custodian.During the initial dialogue with Theodorus,a geometer who influenced Theaetetus life choices,Plato suggested the way in which Socrates gradually led his soul from the transcendent geometry to the land and destiny of Athens.
