摘　　要：在爱尔兰著名戏剧家萧伯纳创作的讽刺戏剧《卖花女》中,语言学家希金斯与卖花女伊莱莎在街头偶遇,希金斯对伊莱莎的口音感到好奇,因为她说的是伦敦土话一一考克尼。考克尼一词带有贬义色彩,在18世纪是生活在伦敦东区穷人的代名词。In a play called Pygmalion written by an Irish writer,two characters meet by chance on a rainy night in London.One of them is Henry Higgins,a rich professor,who is very interested in how language works.The other one is a young woman called Eliza who is selling flowers for a living.They start talking,and Henry is fascinated*by the very different way in which they speak the same language.This is mainly because Eliza is a‘cockney’.
