摘　　要：阿瑟·韦利是英国著名汉学家,一生致力于中国古代小说的翻译与研究。然而,除《西游记》英译本以外,学界对他译介的其它古代小说关注较少。文章细致梳理了韦利的中国古代小说译介史,并重点探讨其文本选择与译介特点。在译文处理方面,韦利将可读性放在更加重要的位置;在理解与解读原作时,他十分注重对重要学术成果的参考和利用,他的译介活动有力推动了中国古代小说在英语世界的传播。Arthur Waley is a giant in translating and introducing Chinese classical novels.However,compared with his translation of Xi youji(Journey to the West),the study on waley’s other translations on this genre is few and far between.By sorting out the translation and introduction of Chinese classical fiction,the paper tries to discuss his translation strategies and interpretation.It is found that Waley places emphasis on the readability of his translation,in addition,he always closely follows the latest achievements in academics.To a great extent,his translation and introduction has done contribution to the dissemination of Chinese classical fiction in the English world.
