“绘事后素”语义考辨

摘　　要：以朱熹和郑玄为代表的两派对《论语》中“绘事后素”之“后素”在解读上截然对立。前者解“素”为“粉地”,名词,解“后素”为“后于素”,即布好粉地然后在上面作画;后者解“素”为“以素粉勾勒”,动词,解“后素”为“后素之”,即绘画中“布完众色之后以素粉分布其间”。二者均没有充分关注孔子“起予者商也”之内涵,亦没有将“绘事后素”之语义与整个对话语境结合起来加以审视。基于对《论语》“绘事后素”章节文本结构的逻辑分析,从对话的连贯性和完整性参悟双方意图,推敲其“言外之意”,认为占据学术主流的“朱派”观点理据不足,“郑派”则对“后素”的本义作出了准确判断,惜乎对“素以为绚兮”的解释仍有失偏颇。In history,two schools represented by Zhu Xi and Zheng Xuan were diametrically opposed in the interpretation of“housu”(“后素”)in the expression“huishi housu”(“绘事后素”)in“Analects of Confucius”.The former interprets“su”(“素”)as“foundation”(“粉地”),a noun,and interprets“housu”(“后素”)as“su comes thereafter”(“后于素”).That is,foundation should be ready before painting begins.The latter interprets“su”(“素”)as“highlighting with plain powder”,a verb,and interprets“housu”(“后素”)as“highlighting with plain powder should be done thereafter”.That is,in the process of painting,“highlighting with plain powder should be done after all other colors are applied.”They neither paid enough attention to the connotation of Confucius’remark“It’s Shang(Zixia)who inspires me”,nor did they closely relate the semantics of“huishi housu”to the context of the entire dialogue for scrutiny.Based on a logic analysis,by taking the text structure of the chapter of“huishi housu”in The Analects as a whole,examining the implications contained in the context,and inferring the intentions of both sides of the dialogue with the help of the coherence and completeness of the dialogue,we can conclude that the viewpoints of the“Zhu School”,which dominate the academic mainstream,are not well-founded.While the“Zheng School”has made accurate judgments on the original meaning of“Hou Su”(“后素”),its interpretation of“It’s plainness that makes beauty”(“素以为绚兮”)is still biased.
