摘　　要：近代中美第一个不平等条约——《望厦条约》的签订,与美国传教士裨治文有着密切的关系。裨治文在中国澳门创办的《中国丛报》是美国政府刺探中国情报的平台,不仅发布涉及中国政治军事的文章,还对中美订约提出了许多建议,为《望厦条约》的签订做好了舆论上的准备。此外,裨治文还直接参与条约的谈判与翻译,利用清政府缺乏外交人员的弊端,为美国窃取了不少特权。The signing of The Treaty of Wangxia between China and the United States,the first unequal treaty between China and the United States in modern times,is closely associated with an American missionary,Elijah Coleman Bridgman.The Chinese Repository,founded by Elijah Coleman Bridgman in Macao region,was a platform for the US government to spy on China.It not only published articles on Chinese politics and military matters,but also made many recommendations on the treaty between China and the United States,preparing public opinion for the signing of The Treaty of Wangxia.In addition to this,Elijah Coleman Bridgman was directly involved in the negotiation and translation of the treaty,taking advantage of the Qing government’s lack of diplomatic personnel and stealing a number of privileges for the United States.
