This paper proposes a method for verification of cruise deck structural redundancy in accordance with the rules of International Maritime Organization(IMO)on ship structural redundancy and based on the damage assumption of stiffened plates, which includes cruise deck structural redundancy criteria, damage assumptions, load conditions, nonlinear finite element analysis, etc.Using the proposed method, the redundancy check of the deck structure of the polar cruise ship with different participation degrees of the superstructure is carried out.The calculation results show that the designed deck structure of the cruise ship complies with the buckling failure criteria of stiffened plates in the Rules for the Classification of Steel Ships(RSS)of Bureau Veritas and meets the redundancy requirements, that is“the local damage of any stiffened structural member(such as local permanent deformation, fracture or weld failure)will not immediately lead to the collapse of the entire stiffened panel”.The research work provides a theoretical support for the redundancy design of cruise ship.
