摘 要:1950-1960年代,部分美国学者有意识地翻译了一些新中国文学。虽然译者及译作数目不多,译文发表也较为零散,但它们具有特殊的研究价值。以麦克法夸尔与施拉姆等为代表的西方本土译者试图以文学为媒介了解新中国信息,政治目的大于文学欣赏功能。而以许芥昱为代表的华裔学者则试图“以选代史”,通过译文反映新中国诗歌面貌。由于政治立场、意识形态与文化背景不同,他们对新中国文学采取了不同的译介策略,译文风格也出现了明显的差异。这些翻译活动背后意识形态、族裔身份、个体审美等力量的交织与纠缠,体现了跨语际、跨文化传播的复杂性。During the 1950's and 1960's,a number of American scholars consciously translated some literary works of New China.Although the translators and translations are not very big in number and the translations appear scattered,they have important research value.As Western translators from the field of political studies,MacFarquhar and Schram tried to understand the information about New China through literature.for political purpose rather than for literary appreciation.Kai-yu Hsu,a scholar of Chinese descent,tried to rfleet the features of New China's poetry through translation.Because of their different political positions,ideologies and cultural backgrounds,they adopted different strategies in translating New China's literature,resulting in obvious differences in translation styles.The interweaving and entanglement of ideology,ethnic identity,individual aesthetics and other forces bchind these translation activities clearly rflct the complexity of interlin gual and cross-cultural communication.
