华化西学与异化归化的翻译策略——贺麟的文化翻译观

摘　　要：1940年,贺麟在《论翻译》中提出了“华化西学”的观点。所谓“华化西学”,在当时的语境下,指的就是中国化西洋学问。“华化西学”这一观点的提出,不仅从文化层面道出了翻译的意义与价值,还从翻译策略的角度确立了翻译西学的归化取向。贺麟归化翻译思想一方面是源于时代的需要,另一方面则出于他的强烈的爱国主义精神和历史使命感,他的英诗汉译中的归化翻译策略,采用通顺、流畅和地道的译文来代替原文,符合译入语的语言和文化习惯,用吴宓的话说,即是以“新材料入旧格律”。In 1940,He Lin put forward the viewpoints of“Hua Hua Xi Xue”in his On Translation.The socalled“Hua Hua Xi Xue”,in the context of that time,refers to domesticating western studies.The viewpoint of Hua Hua Xi Xue not only shows the meaning and value of translation from the cultural level,but also establishes the methodological orientation of translating western studies.He Lin’s strategies of domestication partly stems from the needs of the times,and partly stems from his strong sense of patriotism and historical mission.His domesticating strategy in translating English poems into Chinese uses a smooth,fluent and idiomatic translation to replace the original text,which is in line with the language and cultural habits of the target language.In Wu Mi’s words,it is to“put new materials into old rules and forms of classical poetic composition”.
