Microorganisms rely on the signal recognition and transmission to answer the external environment change.c-di-AMP,as the second messenger molecule, plays a key role in signal transmission. It regulates the genes and proteins expression related to the physiological functions such as cell growth, biofilm formation, potassium homeostasis,DNA integrity, cell wall synthesis and fatty acid synthesis via receptor targets such as enzymes, transcriptional regulators and riboswitches.Although the regulation of c-di-AMP metabolism has been well studied in bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis,Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus, there is reletively less research in lactic acid bacteria. This paper focuses on the metabolism of c-di-AMP in lactic acid bacteria and the signaling role of c-di-AMP in potassium homeostasis and inhibition of glycine-betaine transport, and summarizes the metabolic modulation of c-di-AMP in lactic acid bacteria in current research,in order to deepen the understanding of the signal regulation of second messenger molecular in lactic acid bacteria.
