摘 要:20世纪初的美国大学正面临着第二次科技革命带来的诸多挑战。面对科技革命带来的社会变革,时任普林斯顿大学校长的伍德罗.威尔逊秉持“普林斯顿,为国家服务”的理念,积极推动大学的世俗化和现代化。为此,他广揽人才,推动课程改革,大力整顿学风并积极完善行政管理体制。虽然,威尔逊校长管理普林斯顿大学时间并不长,但在其任期内,他不仅推动了大学的转型,还明确了普林斯顿大学的学术使命,使普林斯顿大学成为了一所既注重学术,又追求务实的充满个性化教育理念的大学。其之后的领导者和广大师生,在不同的时代和环境下坚定地坚守了相同的使命和价值观,使普林斯顿大学成为世界优秀学者心目中的殿堂。American universities in the early 20th century faced numerous challenges brought about by the Second Industrial Revolution.In response to the social changes brought about by the technological revolution,Woodrow Wilson,then president of Princeton University,adhered to the philosophy of“Princeton in the Nation’s Service”and actively promoted the secularization and modernization of the university.To this end,he recruited talented individuals,promoted curriculum reform,vigorously rectified academic style,and actively improved the administrative management system.Although President Wilson’s tenure at Princeton was not long,during his tenure,he not only promoted the university’s transformation but also clarified Princeton’s academic mission,making Princeton a university that values both academia and pragmatism and embodies a personalized educational philosophy.Subsequent leaders and faculty have steadfastly upheld the same mission and values in different times and environments,making Princeton a haven for outstanding scholars around the world.
