摘　　要：英国前首相温斯顿·丘吉尔有句名言:“我们靠所得谋生,通过给予创造生活。”这句话概括出给予对于我们人生的重要意义。尽管做志愿者看上去是一种完全利他的行为,但会给参与者带来非金钱上的回报。本文作者认为志愿活动应在每个人生活中占有一席之地。她曾自愿清理贫困社区的公寓,也曾去学校为脑瘫学生讲课。通过这些活动,她有机会了解底层民众和弱势群体的生活。志愿工作让她更有同情心、同理心,帮她走出舒适圈,找到生活的意义。“We make a living by what we get,but we make a life by what we give”-this powerful quote2 by Winston Churchill,the prime minister of the United Kingdom during World WarⅡ,perfectly encapsulates the significance of giving,and how it helps to enrich and add meaning to our own lives.One of the most frequent ways of giving to those around us is through voluntary work,where we choose to help people or communities in need without receiving any financial compensation in return.
