学者型翻译家余国藩英译《西游记》研究

摘　　要：《西游记》在英语世界的译介已有二百年的历史。在众多英译文本中,余国藩译本因其鲜明的学术性特点而别具一格。本文首先考察该译本产生的历史语境,继而以描写的方法从译本导言以及译者翻译理念入手,探究余国藩作为《西游记》研究专家和他的翻译理念对其翻译活动的影响。研究发现,译者的具体翻译策略不仅展现了其深入、独到的研究成果,同时传递出译者坚持“可译性”的翻译理念,二者完美融合,使这部译作成为学术型翻译的典范,为英语世界阅读、研究《西游记》提供坚实的基础。It has been more than two hundred years since Xi You Ji was first introduced in the English world.Among so many English translations,Anthony C.Yu's version(Yu 1977,1978,1980)is distinctive for its academic features.This paper first examines the historical context of its publication,and then explores the influence of the translator's academic research and translation concept on the translation activities of this novel.It is found that the translator's specific translation strategies not only show his insightful research achievements,but also convey the translator's ideal of“translatability”.The perfect integration makes this translation an academic model,which provides a solid foundation for reading and studying this masterpiece in the English world.
