摘 要:经翻译传播而来的美国哲学家杜威的实用主义思想对中国教育近代化的发展历程产生了深远的影响。本文以知识社会学的原理为依托,借鉴其“知识人”理念,考察刘伯明对杜威实用主义思想的译介与重构活动,剖析其作为知识流通和再生产的翻译活动与社会之间的互构、共变关系。研究发现,刘伯明对杜威实用主义思想的译介活动,契合了“五四”时期强调科学知识与教育启蒙的社会文化语境并受其制约,而刘伯明作为译者、师者和学者的多元“知识人”身份支撑他实现了对杜威实用主义思想的译介与重构,也促使他在此基础上开展了相关的学术研究和知识生产活动。The pragmatic philosophy of John Dewey,which was introduced into China through translation,has exerted a profound impact on the development of education in modern China.Based on the notion of“the man of knowledge”from the sociology of knowledge,this paper explores Liu Boming’s role in the translation and reconstruction of Dewey’s pragmatic philosophy in China,thereby revealing the co-variance between society and Liu Boming’s translation activity as an act of knowledge circulation and reproduction.It is found that Liu Boming’s translation of Dewey was structured and structuring the socio-cultural situation of modern China in the early 20th century,when a cultural renaissance was in its heyday,and that Liu Boming’s multiple identities of“the man of knowledge”as a translator,educator,and scholar underpinned his successful translation and reconstruction of Dewey’s pragmatic philosophy,which also prompted him to undertake related academic research and knowledge production activities.
