基于功能对等的“很+形”谓语句英译对比研究——兼论葛浩文的译文风格

摘　　要：现代汉语“很+形”谓语句中的程度副词“很”只是性质形容词做谓语的一种形式“标记”,几乎丧失了作为强化词的表达功能。本文基于“功能对等”理论视角,运用语料库的研究手段,以William Dolby、Jeanne Kelly、杨宪益与戴乃迭译文为参照,同时参照英文小说《京华烟云》相同结构的汉语译文,对比考察葛浩文英译本中“很+形”谓语句译文的功能对等状况。研究发现,“很+形”谓语句的葛浩文译文功能对等程度明显高于其他三位译者;绝大多数“很”的葛浩文英译文没有寻求形式上的词对词对等,而是通过改变原文形式、保留原文意义的方法达到译文与原文真正意义上的功能对等。The degree adverb “hen”(很) in the “hen(很)+adj” predicate sentence of modern Chinese is only a grammatical “marker” for the qualitative adjectives to act as a predicate,having lost the expressive function as an intensifier.Based on the theory of functional equivalence and with the help of corpus method,this paper makes a comparative study of the functional equivalence of “hen(很)+adj” predicate sentences in Howard Goldblatt's English translations,with reference to William Dolby,Jeanne Kelly,Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang's translations.It also refers to the Chinese translation of the same structure of the English novel Moment in Peking.The study finds that Howard Goldblatt's translations of “hen(很)+adj” predicate sentences have comparatively the highest degree of functional equivalence than that of the other three translators.Most of Howard Goldblatt's English translations of the adverb “hen”(很) in “hen(很)+adj” predicate sentences do not seek word-word equivalence in form,but achieve functional equivalence in the true sense between the original and the target texts by changing the form while still preserving the meaning of the original texts.
