《金瓶梅》首个英节译本中的“声音”探究

摘  要:声音理论是翻译学研究中探讨各主体现身的重要手段之一。本文站在声音理论视角,对《金瓶梅》首个英节译本《西门庆传奇》进行了系统分析。研究发现,该译本中存在语境声音和文本声音,其中语境声音主要源自标题、译者前言和插图三处,文本内译者声音可分为“明显”和“隐蔽”两种。语境声音通过译者对标题的改写、对作者身份和复仇故事的介绍及插画师视觉形象的营造,增强了译本情色猎奇属性的渲染。文本声音则通过译者文内注释的显性方式及译者叙述话语操控等隐性策略,彰显出译者在跨文化传播中的文化协调作用,也反映出其努力介入文本的主体性和自身价值判断等。Voices as an indicator of different agents'visibility constitute the fabric of translations.Through the lens of voice theory,this paper conducts a systematic analysis of the very first English rendition of the classic Chinese novel Jin Ping Mei,entitled The Adventures of Hsi Men Ching.The examination unveils the presence of both contextual and textual voices within this translation.The former primarily derive from the title,the translator's note,and the illustrations,while the latter,explicit or implicit,are from within the translated text.Contextual voices are achieved through the translator's rewriting of the title,introduction of the author's identity and a story of revenge in his note,and the visual imagery created by the illustrator,all of which serve to intensify the portrayal of the translation's erotic and sensational elements.Textual voices are exemplified through the translator's explicit methods such as the in-text annotations and implicit methods such as the manipulation of narrative discourse.These textual voices not only underscore the translator's role as a coordinator in cross-cultural communication but reflect his agency to intervene in the text and his own value judgments.
