摘　　要：Cortical states such as high and low arousal during wakefulness or rapid eye movement(REM)and non-REM(NREM)phases of sleep are fundamental biological processes that are highly conserved across species.An intricate balance or homeostasis of cortical states during wakefulness or sleep is necessary for an organism's survival and well-being.
