摘 要:英国汉学家翟理斯对中国古典诗词的翻译,学界多有研究,其中的翻译修改却鲜有涉及。本文以5部收录翟理斯诗歌翻译的编译著作为语料来源,辅以其他文献资料,对比其中诗歌译文的前后修改,分析其翻译修改的具体表现与动因。研究发现,翟理斯诗歌翻译修改类型主要有9种,即整体重译、增译、短句修改、时态改变、标题修改、诗节修改、标点修改、字母大小写修改与内副文本信息修改。受自身翻译观的改变与外界因素影响,翟理斯进行修改时对前译的语法句法、语义表达、整体风格都有所改动。深入研究翟理斯的诗歌翻译修改有利于揭示翻译的动态生成性。Herbert Giles's translation of classical Chinese poetry has attracted wide academic attention since an early age,but the revision in his poetry translation has long been neglected.This article,taking five compilations of translated Chinese works that contain Giles's poetry translations as research objects,tries to analyze his poetry translation revision and the motives of his revision by comparing his poetry translations and referring to other relevant literature at the same time.It is found that there are nine types of revision in his poetry translation,namely retranslation,amplification,sentence revision,tense change,title revision,stanza revision,punctuation change,capitalization revision,and revision of peritext.Influenced by both the change of his views on poetry translation and external factors,Giles revised his poetry translation from several aspects:grammar and syntax,semantic expression,and translation style.An in-depth study of Giles'spoetry translation revision helps reveal the genetic nature of translation.
