摘 要:《庄子》(《南华真经》)是最重要的中国经典之一。巴尔福作为第一个英译《庄子》的译者,其英译本中运用大量的副文本。基于副文本理论,以巴尔福英译《庄子》副文本为研究对象,分析副文本是如何体现道家思想文化、如何彰显译者风格、如何体现中国传统语文学方法与西方文学和文学译著范式相结合。虽然其中不乏误读与误解,但其副文本为读者阅读提供便利,为其他汉学家和汉学研究提供宝贵资料,为道教经籍英译、中国典籍英译提供了借鉴。Zhuangzi is one of the most important Chinese classics.As the first English translator of Zhuangzi,Balfour used many of the para-texts in his English translation of The Divine Classic of Nan-Hua.Based on the theory of para-texts,this paper takes the para-texts of Balfour's version as the object to analyze how they reflect Daoist thought and culture,how they manifest the translator's style,and how they embody the integration of Chinese tradition and literary methods with Western literature and literary translation paradigms.Although they have quite a few misinterpretations and misunderstandings,the para-texts make the source text more accessible to the target reader,provide valuable materials for other sinologists and sinological studies,and serve as a reference for the English translation of Daoist scriptures as well as Chinese classics.
