论理雅各对《礼记》否定词的翻译

摘　　要：《礼记》是儒家礼学的集大成者,是承载中国传统文化及民族伦理思想的重要文献。作为规劝和陈情用礼准则的典籍,否定词的使用是《礼记》的特色之一。在“翻译质量评估模式”和“原型—模型”理论视野下,理雅各翻译《礼记》门类众多的否定词时“显隐”特征显著,他能精准把握不同否定词的发音、词义、搭配,配合“直译为先”“反说正译”“显化翻译”等不同的翻译方法,作忠实通达的转化;但是,他的翻译也存在对否定词否定程度把握不当、对否定词引起的情感变动无法完善转译的情况。这些由于“文化真空”造成偶有的翻译“失真”现象,并未消解他上佳的译文质量。Liki(The Book of Rites)is a comprehensive work of Confucian rituals and a key document embodying traditional Chinese culture and national ethical thought.As a classic for persuasion and ceremonial norms,the use of negative words is one of its notable features.From the perspective of“translation quality assessment models”and“prototype-model”theories,James Legge’s translation of the diverse negative words in The Book of Rites reveals distinct“visibility and invisibility”characteristics.He accurately grasped their pronunciation,meaning,and collocations,employing methods like“literal translation first”,“expressing positives through negatives”,and“explicit translation”for faithful and coherent conversion.However,his translation occasionally misjudged the degree of negation or failed to fully convey emotional nuances triggered by negation,resulting in rare“distortions”due to a“cultural vacuum”.Nonetheless,such issues did not undermine the overall excellence of his translations.
