Diabetes has become a serious disease endangering human health and life quality,andα-glucosidase inhibitors(AGI)are effective drugs for treating typeⅡdiabetes. However, currently commonly used AGI drugs in clinical practice are plagued by relatively high costs and significant adverse reactions.Hypoglycemic plants are important sources of natural AGI with low side effects, multiple targets, and high catalytic activity.Recently,a research hotspot focuses on utilizing the powerful metabolic network and complex enzyme systems of microorganisms to increase the content and biological activity of AGI active substances in hypoglycemic plants and even to obtain new AGI through biological transformation. In this review,we explore the conversion effect of microbial fermentation on AGI active substances in hypoglycemic plants, and summarize the application progress in microbial fermentation to enhanceα-glucosidase inhibitory activity in hypoglycemic plants. The study provides theoretical reference for further exploration and development of efficient and safe natural AGI drugs.
