Social capital theory emphasizes that relationships are crucial resources for generating value. From the perspectives of internal and external social capital, this study analyzes the status of social capital accumulation in the talent recommendation process to international organizations by American universities based on the three major sources of social capital. The study finds that American universities, while constructing internal social capital network, effectively leverage external social capital network and seek the support of“key figures”.At the motivational level, they promote the stability and durability in relationships with employers through norm setting and trust maintenance. At the resource level, they enhance their social capital stock by utilizing information, development and environmental resources to support talent recommendation to international organizations. In this regard, the study suggests that the talent recommendation to international organizations is a long-term,future-oriented endeavor for universities.Universities need to steadily accumulate both internal and external social capital to improve the long-term performance of talent recommendation.
