Based on the survey data of China s household income,an interactive effect model is constructed by combining the character of household registration and regional digital economy development to investigate the impact of digital economy development on the urban-rural education gap.The results show that digital economy development can help narrow the gap between urban and rural education, and the conclusion passes the robustness test.In terms of the mechanism of action, digital economy development can narrow the gap between urban and rural education by increasing the highest education level of residents in rural areas, but it fails to significantly narrow the gap between urban and rural residents in junior college and higher education levels.Heterogeneity test results show that the improvement of digital economy development level can help the only-child group achieve“common prosperity”at the education level, but for the non-only child group, the development of digital economy can only help narrow the urban-rural education gap of male groups in provinces with poor higher education resources.Heterogeneity test results show that the scarcity of family education resources investment is still relatively common, and a certain“male preference”phenomenon is still exist.
