Selenoproteins,which are essential functional proteins, play a wide range of roles, including anti-inflammation,immune enhancement, thyroid hormone metabolism regulation, and redox homeostasis maintenance in livestock.Gut microbes can interact with selenoproteins and mediate their biological functions. Therefore, this study is the first to review the classification and function of animal selenoproteins and the interactions between selenoproteins and microbes.Subsequently, the role and potential mechanisms of selenoproteins and their interaction with microorganisms are also elucidated to improve animal growth performance, product quality, and immunity. Finally, the research directions on applying selenoproteins and microorganism interactions in livestock and poultry breeding were presented to provide new ideas and methods for improving livestock production performance and health status.
