摘　　要：科技典籍《海录》包含独特的自然地理科学价值,又汇集了谢清高18世纪末游历世界各国的见闻而具有显著的人文价值。本文考察1840年美国新教传教士裨治文的《海录》译介活动,发现这一行为服务于为其在华活动提供经济支持的赞助人,实际是以传播基督教为旨归。由此决定了裨治文译介策略的实用性和世俗化倾向,即对底本的学术考究不足和选译《海录》中的人文内容。从长远来看,裨治文的译介潜移默化地影响了鸦片战争后美国对华政策以及注重本国利益的美国汉学的形成。本研究对于丰富传教士汉学研究和深化学界对科技典籍文本特征的认识都有所裨益。The Chinese scientific and technological classic Notices of the Seas bears natural science in geography,and has prominent cultural values by recording the round-the-world experience of Xie Qinggao in the late 18th century.This paper explores the American protestant missionary Elijah C.Bridgman's paper published in Chinese Repository in 1840,in which he interpreted and translated Notices of the Seas.It is revealed that Bridgman is devoted to providing information for the patrons,but his underlying motivation lies in the preachment of Christianity.For this reason,his translations are characterized by practicability and secularization,which can be evidenced by the liberal choice of the Chinese version and the selective renderings of cultural contents.His behavior influenced the US's policies toward China after the Opium Wars,and the forming of American sinology focusing on national interests.Also,this study will shed light on missionary sinology studies,as well as the understanding of textual features of Chinese scientific and technological classics.
