摘　　要：大英圣经公会在华的《圣经》译介史已被译界研究梳理过,但具有重大意义的严复的《圣经》翻译一向没有引起学界的广泛关注。这一学术上的缺失应加以弥补。大英圣经公会选择非基督徒严复作为译者,认可其翻译策略,有着特殊的时代背景,也与严复自身的译者素质分不开。严复翻译的《圣经》是未完成之作,有其成功之处,也有经验和教训。本文认为,圣经公会的译者选择及其对译者翻译策略的认可开创了文化译介的一条新路,对今日中华文学文化的译介仍有着启示意义。The history of Bible translation,initiated by the British and Foreign Bible Society,has been studied in the field of translation.However,little attention has been paid to Yan Fu's Bible translation despite its special significance in the history of Chinese translation of the Bible.The decision of selecting Yan Fu,a non-Christian,as their translator and the approval for his translation strategy were made because of special historical circumstances and Yan's qualities as a translator.As an unfinished piece of work,Yan's translation serves as a good lesson as well as a success.The article states that the decision of selecting a translator and the approval for his translation strategy made by the British and Foreign Bible Society launched a new style of foreign-oriented culture translation,serving as an inspiration in today's culture translation projects.
