摘　　要：本研究旨在批判性评述言语反讽的会话含义解释模式。首先,对格赖斯在其会话含义理论框架下提出的经典言语反讽含义论进行阐释,指出其核心要旨;进而,分析并讨论该模式由于自身局限性所引发的以回声论和假装说为代表的后格赖斯批判;最近,新格赖斯学者加门迪亚指出这些后格赖斯批判并不成功,格赖斯模式只要稍作调整即可应对挑战,从而维护并发展了言语反讽含义论。然而,新近发现的内嵌反讽含义现象对(新)格赖斯言语反讽的含义解释模式又提出新一轮的严峻挑战,引发我们重新思考言语反讽以及会话含义的本质。This paper offers a critical review of the influential implicatural account of verbal irony.The paper starts by explaining the basic tenets of Grice's account of verbal irony based on his Conversational Implicature theory,and then discuss its limitations as noted by post-Gricean models of verbal irony represented by the echo theory and pretense theory.In addition,the paper reviews the neo-Gricean rebuttals as offered by Garmendia against those post-Gricean criticisms.Garmendia argues that a mild modification of Grice's model is sufficient to address its limitations and post-Gricean challenges.As a result,the implicatural interpretation of verbal irony is maintained and developed in a neo-Gricean fashion.However,the newly discovered phenomenon of embedded irony implicature poses a further serious challenge to the(neo-)Gricean implicatural interpretation of verbal irony.Embedded irony pushes us to offer a rethinking of both the essence of verbal irony in particular and conversational implicature in general.
