翻译家群体研究的外译视角——兼评朱振武等著《汉学家的中国文学英译历程》

摘　　要：《汉学家的中国文学英译历程》打破了中国翻译家群体研究只关注外译中译者的思维定式,确立了翻译家群体研究的外译视角。该书介绍了英语国家从事中国文学英译的二十一位译者,既有翻译中国古典文学的翻译家,也有翻译现当代中国文学的翻译家,帮助我们了解了中国文学在英语国家翻译传播的全貌。这些翻译家表现出四个明显的特点,在翻译研究和中国文学外译方面,给我们至少三点启示。这样的研究至少六点突出的价值,将有效促进国内的翻译家研究。Exemplifying a translating-out-of-Chinese perspective, Journey of Sinologists’ English Translation of Chinese Literature is a breakthrough in studies on translators as a group in China in that it is different from all previous monographs on translators in China, which without exception study translators who work from other languages into Chinese. The book examines 21 one translators in English-speaking countries. Some of them are specialized in translating classic Chinese literature;the others modern Chinese literature. They share four common qualities or experiences, which are critical to the success of their translations and remind us of three rules in translation, especially literary translation. The book is important in at least six aspects, and is expected to usher in more similar or better studies on translators.
