摘　　要：《米德尔马契》是乔治·爱略特的晚期代表作。本文聚焦多萝西娅与卡苏朋、威尔的两段姻缘,从知识、情感、爱与正义三个层面入手,围绕其一生是不是“一场失败的悲剧”这个问题展开论述。本文认为,尽管多萝西娅未能实现理想,留下种种遗憾,但她却在艰难的内心成长中实现了与他人与社会的联结。在爱略特笔下,自我成长、与他人的联结相比于个人成就,同等重要甚至更加重要。Middlemarch is a masterpiece of George Eliot in her late career.Focusing on Dorothea's two marriages with Casaubon and Will,and on the question"Is her life a tragic failure?"',the paper probes into the novel and develops an argument from three different perspectives,i.e.knowledge,feeling,love and justice.It argues that Dorothea,though unable to realize her dream and regretful in her life,manages to build a strong connection with other people.For George Eliot,such a connection and self-growth is as important as(even more important than)personal success and achievements.
