摘　　要：英语中的will与shall在时态语法中起着举足轻重的作用.本文从系统功能语法的角度讨论了它们的助动词意义、句法特征、语法层次性以及对语言元功能的体现,阐明了它们在三分制时态系统中可以用做基本时态助动词的观点,进而证实了基本时态系统三分制的可行性.The items 'will' and 'shall' play a crucial role in English tense grammars. This paper first, from the Systemic-Functional Perspective, discusses 'will' and 'shall' by looking at their auxiliary senses, syntactic characteristics, which grammatical rank they are located at and what language metafunctions they realize. Then the paper assumes that 'will' and 'shall' can be used as basic auxiliary verbs, which, in turn, justifies the three divisions of the basic tense system as suggested by Halliday (1994).
