大学英语四级“常模”带来的困惑

摘　　要：大学英语四级考试是一种尺度相关———常模参照考试。现行常模由中国六所重点大学的近万名本科生组成。作者把六校1999年四级考试结果与四、六级考试中心公布的2003年6月全国各类院校2001级考试结果进行了对比分析,指出"常模"使六大名校四级考试成绩分布合理,而使得100来所重点大学考生平均成绩不及格,占考生总数90%的非重点院校考生四级通过率仅为26 08%,使大多数院校领导、大英教师和广大考生感到困惑。本文提出了解决四级考试中关键问题的主要方法。CET-4 test is a criterion-related norm-referenced test. The current norm has been derived from about 10000 undergraduates from six famous key universities in China. The author of the present paper compares the 1999 CET-4 test results of these six universities and the results of the 2003 CET-4 test taken by students of all types of universities and points out that while the current norm suits the six famous universities perfectly, the mean score of about 100 key universities is below the “pass level”, and only 26.08% of the candidates from non-key universities (who make up about 90% of all the candidates throughout the country) passed. This paper proposes some measures to solve the main problems in this dilemma caused by CET-4.
