摘　　要：对比刚刚研制完成的《高中英语课程标准》和《大学英语课程教学要求》，不难发现，前者对高中毕业生提出的英语能力要求已和后者提出的“一般要求”不相上下；高中英语课程设置几乎把大学英语的课程设置全部移植了过去。这就产生了一个问题，大学英语教学何去何从?文章通过对社会需要和学生基础的分析，提出了大学英语应调整课程设置，逐步把重心向专门用途英语教学发展的看法，并就其和基础英语教学的关系、教材、教师进行了讨论。According to High School English Syllabus, the requirement for high school graduates is now similar to that for college graduates and the whole college English curriculums have been transplanted to high school English. This poses a question: What's the content and direction of college English teaching? Through needs analysis and the investigation of freshmen's English, the paper believes that it is time for college English teaching to shift gradually to ESP. It also discusses the relation of college English teaching with General English teaching, and the issues of textbooks and teachers involved.
