人际功能视角下英国领导人就职演讲探析  

An Exploration of British Leaders’ Inaugural Speeches: An Interpersonal Function Perspective

摘　　要：本文使用了人际功能理论对英国首相鲍里斯•约翰逊、伊丽莎白•特拉斯、里希•苏纳克的就职演讲进行了探析。研究发现,相同点在于,均大量使用第一人称表达观点;善于借助量值情态动词营造情感共鸣使观点,都大幅使用中量值;都用陈述语气来表达自我主张,传达客观信息,揭示当前英国面临的挑战和困难。区别在于,约翰逊的团体意识强,频繁使用第二人称拉近距离,运用低量值推进政治目标进度,集中表现在强烈的“脱欧”思想上;特拉斯的自我意识较强,第一人称单数比例位居第二,低量值达到33%,以此推行自己强硬的政治措施,推动英国改革;苏纳克信心尤佳,第一人称单数高达50%,超于第一人称复数(19%),低量值的使用最低,以此传达权威性和领导力,势必带领英国走出沼泽的必胜信念。研究表明,英国近来经济形势严峻、社会治理低效、政治环境动乱,英国领导人都试图用各自的政策稳定形势。This article provides an analysis of the inaugural speeches delivered by British leaders Boris John-son, Elizabeth Truss, and Rishi Sunak, focusing on the interpersonal function perspective. The re-search uncovers several commonalities, including the extensive use of the first person to convey their viewpoints and the effective use of modality verbs to elicit emotional resonance. All three leaders make significant use of moderate modality. They employ declarative language to assert their positions, communicate objective information, and shed light on the challenges and difficulties facing the United Kingdom. However, distinctions become apparent in the emphasis of their speeches. Johnson emphasizes a strong collective identity, frequently using the second person to create a sense of closeness, while employing low modality to advance political goals, particularly emphasizing the prominent “Brexit” ideology. Truss, on the other hand, exhibits a strong sense of self-awareness, with a high proportion of first-person singular pronouns and a significant use of low modality, allowing her to advocate assertive political measures and drive reforms in the UK. Sunak exudes confidence, with a high proportion of first-person singular pronouns, surpassing the use of first-person plural, and minimal use of low modality, aiming to convey authority and leadership while emphasizing an unwavering belief in leading the UK through its challenges. The study sug-gests that the UK is currently grappling with economic difficulties, inefficient social governance, and political turmoil. British leaders are employing their individual policy approaches to bring stability to the situation.
