《三国演义》罗译本和虞译本中文化专有项英译策略研究  

A Study on the English Translation Strategies for Culture-Specific Items in Moss Roberts’s Version and Yu Sumei’s Version of San Guo Yan Yi

摘　　要：作为中国四大名著之一,《三国演义》在中国文学史上占有重要地位。本文旨在通过对比分析《三国演义》两个英文全译本(罗慕士译本和虞苏美译本)前二十回中文化专有项翻译方法,帮助读者了解两译本翻译方法的异同,根据需求选择不同的译本。研究发现,罗慕士力求译本向作者靠近,让译文读者体验中国文化,该译本适合用于专业人士学习研究;虞苏美译本尽量靠近读者,以便于流畅阅读。As one of the “Four Great Chinese Classics”, San Guo Yan Yi (Three Kingdoms) takes an important po-sition in Chinese literary history. The paper intends to conduct a comparative analysis of the meth-ods employed by Moss Roberts and Yu Sumei for translating culture-specific items in the first twenty chapters of San Guo Yan Yi, offering help for readers to understand similarities and differ-ences of both translators in selecting translation methods for such items and choice of the English version based on their respective needs. It is found that Moss Roberts tries to stay closer to the au-thor and helps the target readers to experience the Chinese culture, while Yu Sumei attempts to stay closer to the readers and facilitate their smooth reading;it is also found that Moss Roberts’s version is more suitable for specialized studies of professionals.
