近百年来对《中国丛报》的利用与研究述评

摘　　要：《中国丛报》是新教传教士在中国创办的向西方介绍中国的第一份英文刊物.上世纪初,国外学者就开始利用《丛报》来研究基督教在华传教史,但在80年之前对《丛报》的研究始终没有纳入"冲击—回应""传统—现代"等主流范式的视野,他们多关注传教士对鸦片贸易态度的转变、传教士与商人之间的复杂关系.中国学者对《丛报》的利用起步较晚,但受1980年代"后殖民理论"的影响,中外学者对《丛报》的研究迅速升温.国内外学者均认为传教士对条约口岸制度建立前后中西关系的走势具有影响力,新教传教士在《丛报》上构建出的中国形象为负面形象.此外,人们还进一步从新闻传播、翻译策略、西方汉学等方面拓展了对《丛报》的研究视野.The Chinese Repository(1834-51)was the first English-language periodical issued in China by some Western protestant missionaries with the aim of introducing the knowledge of China to the West.Western scholars have been using it in the studies in the history of Christian missionaries since the beginning of the last century.However,the studies of The Chinese Repository has not been included in the perspectives of those dominant paradigms such as"shock-response"paradigm and"traditionmodernization"paradigm which pay more attention to the change of missionaries’attitude toward the opium trade and the complex relationship between missionaries and merchants.Chinese scholars’studies of The Chinese Repository started later than that of Western scholars;however,the"postcolonial theory"in the 1980 s heated up the studies both at home and abroad.Chinese and Western scholars all believe that the protestant missionaries had influence on the trend of Sino-Western relations before and after the establishment of Treaty Port system,and the image of China created by them in The Chinese Repository was negative.In addition,the research horizon of The Chineese Repository has been broadened to include such studies as journalism and communication,translation strategies and Western Sinology.
