摘  要:一 在“一论”里,我们已略述白体诗在英国诗剧里逐渐提高表达力的过程。 这当中,莎士比亚起了历史性作用。 但他没有停步不前,而是在白体诗的运用上继续试验,于是后期呈现前期罕见的某些特征。In this second article on Shakespeare's use of poetic language, the author looks into some ofthe characteristics of Shakespearean blank verse in his later plays, such as more mixed styles,more colloquial diction, the use of prose rather than verse for special lyrical effects, preoccupationwith the linguistic medium as a separate dimension of dramatic content, as well as changes withinthe iambic pentameter itself, which was often broken up, racked and stretched to the utmost toexpress the well-nigh inexpressible: the doubts, uncertainties, anxieties and other conflicting passionsof a brooding, at times cynical, Shakespeare. Other factors were at work. For blank verse itself as a dramatic medium, it ney4from this mauling. Indeed, it soon lost its foothold on the stage altogether.
