摘　　要：英语和汉语都有丰富多彩的修辞方式。Many English figures of speech find their correspondents in the Chinese language. Hence the adop-tion of the names of some Chinese figures as their translations. However, in some popular English-Chinese dictionaries, several English figures of speech, litotes, metaphor, metonymy, parallelism, antith-esis and syllepsis, are translated into the names of Chinese figures that are not corresponding tothem, or into other inexact terms. The author suggests that the above English figures be retranslatedaccording to their qualities and functions.
