摘　　要：本文从各个不同侧面对中国改革开放背景下日益繁荣的翻译活动进行探讨。前两节着重讨论了口译活动。首先采用类比的方式从笔者本人从事的行业──电力着手分析了口译活动的特点，然后提出口译区别于笔译的衡量标准，即“准确、及时、融通”。后三节讨论一般的翻译活动。首先从另一角度讨论翻译的作用──翻译的倍增效应，接着跟踪剖析了新形势下翻译市场由初级走向高级的变化，最后针对新世纪全球经济一体化浪潮对优质翻译需求不断提高的现实对翻译工作者的素质提出了新的要求。This paper looks into the increasingly brisk translation activities from various perspectives against the backdrop of the reform and opening drive in China. The first 2 sections focus on the oral interpretation. It analyzes the characteristics of the interpretation activity by analogy to the power-the business in which the author is personally involved,and then brings forward the new criteria for interpretation as opposed to written translation, i. e. 'accuracy, timeliness and harmony'. The later 3 sections look at the translation in general. It discusses the functions of translation from an entirely new point of view- the Multiplier Effect of translation,and anatomizes the trend of the translation market change featuring a move from the low level to the high level in the current new circumstances. Finally, it sets forth new requirements on the competence of the translators at large in the light of the mounting demand for fine-quality translation in the context of the economic globalization.
