摘　　要：翻译过程中应使用权威的源语词典,这是翻译方家(例如国外的Peter Newm ark,国内的刘宓庆)历来的忠告。本文通过“groupth ink”和Power tends to corrupt…”两个译例的讨论,证明这一忠告在英汉翻译过程中常常被低估甚至忽视。使用权威源语词典的重要意义和熟练使用词典的综合技能,在英汉翻译中无论如何强调也不过分。The use of authoritative SL （ source language） monolingual dictionaries is indispensable in the course of translation, as is repeatedly suggested by well-known scholars home and abroad. This paper intends to demonstrate, by way of illustration of the term ＂ groupthink＂ and the famous quotation ＂ Power tends to corrupt...＂, that the importance of SL dictionaries in translation tends to be on occasions either underestimated or simply overlooked. It is concluded that much more emphasis should therefore be attached to skilled use of SL monolingual dictionaries as such.
