摘 要:《大学英语课程教学要求(试行)》指出教师素质是学科发展的关键,但大学英语的学科属性引人深思。本文从学科概念角度分析认为大学英语不是一个独立的学科,并进一步认为这同我国外语教学的学科属性与地位不定有直接关系。学科属性不定对我国外语教学造成很多不利影响。文章认为,我国外语教学的学科不是应用语言学、二语习得、外语教学法或外语教育语言学,而应该是外语教育学。只有建立外语教育学的二级学科地位,大学英语的学科归属和大学英语教师的素质问题以及我国外语教学的一系列根本问题如理论研究薄弱、师资素质偏低等才能得到解决。In College English Curriculum Requirements it is mentioned that the quality of teachers is the key to the development of college English as a discipline, but whether college English is an academic discipline in its own right is doubtful. A detailed analysis of college English against the definition of discipline confirms the doubt. The denial of college English as a discipline is argued to have much to do with the obscurity of foreign language teaching as a discipline in China and this obscurity in turn is of detriment to the practice of foreign language teaching per se. The article posits that TESOL/education rather than applied linguistics, SLA, language pedagogy, or foreign language educational linguistics is the proper discipline to define foreign language teaching in China and only when TESOL/education is institutionalized can all the fundamental problems related to FLT and college English, such as theory studies and teacher development be resolved.
