The enormous gendered metaphors of translation in Western translation history might be categorized into four groups, namely, the gendered metaphors in terms of the source text and its translation(s), the author and the translator, the process of translation, the source culture and the target culture. Behind the gendered metaphors of translation lie the sexist and violent cultural values which find their deeper philosophical root in the notorious addiction to the binary hierarchy and totality in Western philosophy. In deconstructing the gendered metaphors of translation, the deconstructionist justification for difference has its positive implications as well as its slight utopian nature.
