摘　　要：在翻译活动中,翻译目的直接影响着译者对翻译文本和翻译策略的选择。在半殖民地半封建社会的中国,大翻译家严复和林纾出于远大的政治抱负和改革社会思想的目的译介外国作品,特别重视其中的思想性。也正是因为他们的这种出发点,他们的翻译在近代中国的社会现实中起了非常重要的思想启蒙作用,也加快了中国现代化和融入国际体系的进程。In translating activity, the purpose of translation has a direct bearing on the translator＇s choice of translated texts and strategies. In semi-colonial and semi - feudal society of China, Yan Fu and Lin Shu,two great outstanding translators, translated foreign works out of far-sighted political aspirations and for the purpose of reforming the feudal society, with great attention paid to the ideological significance of the translated works. It is out of these aspirations and purposes that their translation played an important role in enlightening the Chinese society and accelerating her course of modernization and pace to melt into global system.
