摘　　要：威廉.琼斯除了提出著名的印欧语系构想,还有大量关于语言历史比较的论述,形成了多种有共同来源的语言族群的假说,构成了印欧语系、芬兰—乌戈尔语系、阿尔泰语系、含—闪语系等的雏形,并提出了语言历史比较研究的一些原则和方法,初步奠定了历史比较语言学的理论基础。这些语系构想和理论标志着历史比较语言学的诞生。In addition to his famous formulation on Indian-Aryan language family,Sir William Jones had shaped the research in comparative and historical linguistics,raising a series of hypotheses on the language families(groups)of the same stock,which includes Indo-European family,Finno-Ugric Family,Altaic family and Hamito-Semitic family and so on.He wrote a treatise meticulously dealing with ancient Persian with particular reference to the history of the language and the comparisons,and established some theoretical principles,which has laid the foundation of the theory on comparative and historical linguistics.His hypotheses and theories mark the birth of comparative and historical linguistics.
