A Study on Changes of Register Features in Learner English

摘  要:本研究选择了14个典型语体特征,并将其归为口语语体与笔语语体特征群,每个特征群包括7个特征;在此基础上分析英语专业学生一年级与四年级英语口笔语语体特征的变化,同时考察其变化与本族语者口笔语语体差异的方向是否一致。研究结果表明与本族语者相比,能够区分学习者英语口笔语语体的特征数量少,且差异程度不相同;经过4年学习,差异程度朝着本族语者口笔语差异的方向变化,但与本族语者仍旧有很大区别;随着英语水平的提高,学习者口语中5个书面语体特征频次在增加,3个口语体特征频次在减少,笔语中2个口语体特征频次在减少,3个书面特征频次在增加,这意味着口语中的笔语倾向比笔语中口语倾向严重。In this study, 14 typical register features were selected and classified into the spoken and written groups respectively with seven ones in each. Based on these two sets of features, the changes in spoken and written English by Year One and Year Four English Majors were analyzed in an attempt to see whether such changes could bring English learners closer to the differences in the native spoken and written English. The results show that compared with the native English, the features that could differentiate the learner's spoken from the written English were fewer, and their differences, not the same ; through four years' study, the number of differentiating features did not increase while the differences between the spoken and written .English changed resulting in being closer to the native use. Moreover, there was still a huge discrepancy between the learner and the native English regarding the use of register features. The results also indicate that along with language proficiency improving, five written features became more frequent and three spoken features, less frequent in learner spoken English while two spoken features became less frequent and three written features, more frequent in the learner written English. This suggests that the written style in the learner spoken English was much stronger than the spoken style in the learner written English.
