摘　　要：汉语人名负载着凝重的汉语言文化信息,是汉语言文化的重要载体之一,也是英译的一大难点。我国古典文学名著《红楼梦》场面浩大,涉及人物数百,翻译起来难度很大。小说的两个著名英译版本在翻译这些人名时,也不可避免地带来了文化缺损。针对此问题,在介绍汉语姓名系统的基础上,对杨、霍两个译本中人名的翻译进行分析,找出人名英译时的文化缺损,并探析这些文化缺损产生的原因。The Chinese names of persons bear rich Chinese cultural information, which are difficult for English translation. A Story ot Red Mansions, a famous classic literary work, involves several hundred figures. The translation of names in the story inevitably causes loss of cultural information. This paper, on the basis of introduction of the Chinese name system, analyses the translation of names by Yang Xianyi and Hawkes and explores the causes for loss of cultural information.
