“形合”、“意合”与英汉翻译的句法策略

摘　　要：形合与意合是英汉语之间最重要的区别。汉语以意合为主,形合为辅;而英语以形合为主,意合为辅,以形制意。文章具体分析了意合、形合在汉英语言中的种种现象,并试图说明中国传统哲学的整体观、综合思维和模糊思维是汉语意合趋向的根源;形合特征则是西方民族依照原子哲学观和形式逻辑思维方式做出的自然选择。Hypotaxis and parataxis are the most important features which help us distinguish English and Chinese. Chinese is characterized mainly by parataxis, while English by hypotaxis. This paper is intended to analyze in detail various phenomena of parataxis and hypotaxis in Chinese and English. The paper attempts to prove that the idea of wholeness, comprehensive and vague thinking modes in the traditional Chinese philosophy are the root cause why Chinese tends to show parataxis, while hypotaxis is the natural choice that the western nations have made according to the philosophy of atoms and the thinking modes of formal logic.
