模因论视角下的汉语公示语英译的归化与异化

摘　　要：作为一种特殊的应用性文体,汉语公示语的英译至关重要。恰当的翻译能为广大外国友人提供便利,反之错误的翻译则会造成误导。模因是文化传递单位,或者说是文化复制因子。从模因论角度来看,语言本身是就是一种模因。对于一些常见的汉语公示语宜采取归化翻译的策略,直接复制英语中的相似模因;而对于一些承载着丰富文化内涵的汉语公示语则需采用异化的翻译策略,以帮助汉语模因在西方的传播。As a special practical linguistic form, the Chinese-English translation of public signs proves very important. Appropriate translation will be much helpful to foreigners, while wrong translation will be misleading. Dawkins defined the meme as a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation. According to memetics, language itself is a kind of meme. Thus, to some common public signs, it would be better to adopt domestication in translation--by copying similar memes from English directly. However, for those heavily culture-loaded public signs, alienation would be a better choice, which will help the spread of Chinese memes in the west in the long run.
