摘　　要：长久以来,传统的英语课堂教学把重心放在传授语法知识上而忽略了语言的语用功能,这不仅背离了语言的本质,而且已经成为学生交际能力发展的障碍。成功的语言交际不仅依赖于语言知识,也取决于语用能力。为提高学生的交际能力,英语教师应该重视语用学并将语用学应用于教学中。Traditional English teaching has for long put emphasis on the grammatical usage of language but ignored the pragmatic use of language,which deviated from the communicative essence of language and has become a barrier for the development of the students＇ communicative competence.This paper holds that English language teachers should be aware of the roles of pragmatics and apply pragmatics to teaching in order to promote students＇ communicative competence.The paper discusses the conception of pragmatics and its relevant theories,and explores some of the implications of pragmatics to English language teaching.
