摘　　要：从鸦片战争以后到五四运动以前这一时期,是中国现代儿童文学产生的萌芽期,其中翻译文学起到了极其重要的作用。在林纾一生翻译的一百多部文学作品中,有十四部是儿童文学作品,对中国现代文学,尤其是中国现代儿童文学的萌芽和发展做出了巨大贡献。不过,林纾当时所处的历史时代和社会文化背景,决定了其与现在不同的儿童观、翻译观和文学观。It has always been controversial among researchers in translation studies concerning the translations of Lin Shu, the famous translator in the late Qing Dynasty. Some hail him as ＂the first to translate foreign literature into Chinese＂, while others tend to accuse him of his ＂disloyalty＂ to the origi- nal. However, there has not been due attention paid to Lin＇s translation of children＇s literature which, in fact, fascinates children readers. Based upon social-historical and philosophical backgrounds in China, this paper endeavors to interpret Lin＇s translation of children＇s literature by taking into consideration prevailing views upon children, translation and literature at that time. Nowadays, Lin＇s contribution to the develop- ment of children＇s literature in China should not be overlooked.
