摘　　要：基于自建"萧乾翻译与创作语料库",本文考察萧乾与金隄《尤利西斯》汉译本的类符/型符比和平均句长,以观察"简化共性"在其词汇和句式层面的体现。类符/型符比的统计结果显示,两个翻译文本使用的词汇均比原创文本富于多样性变化,因而Baker(1993)所谓"词汇简化共性"在本个案研究中未被证实。平均句长统计结果显示,萧乾翻译文本中存在句式简化现象,但该现象在金隄译文中并不明显。本文还进一步探讨了萧译本中由于句式简化而导致的风格简化现象。This paper reports a corpus-based study of two well-known Chinese translations of Joyce＇s Ulysses,one by Xiao Qian and the other by Jin Di,with a view to testing the hypothesis of translation universals,namely,lexical and syntactic simplification in translational language.A type-token ratio survey reveals a higher variety of vocabulary in the Chinese translations than in the English original text,thus challenging the lexical simplification hypothesis claimed by Baker（1993）.An analysis of the average sentence length of the translated texts shows a tendency of syntactic simplification in Xiao＇s translation,but such a tendency is hardly noticeable in Jin＇s.The study also makes a further analysis of stylistic simplification resulting from the syntactic simplification in Xiao＇s translation.
